Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals (DPRP) at Nigerian Exchange (NGX)

LAGOS — History was made on the trading floor of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) as business mogul Aliko Dangote joined dignitaries, including Executive Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to strike the ceremonial opening gong. The ritual officially signaled the commencement of the Initial Public Offering (IPO) presentation for Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, inaugurating a landmark moment for African capital markets and the continent’s industrial landscape.

The high-profile ceremony convened business leaders, market regulators, and government officials to celebrate an achievement positioned as a turning point for domestic energy independence. Speaking during the event, Aliko Dangote alongside David Bird, Chief Executive Officer of the refinery, articulated the overarching vision powering the multi-billion-dollar project. Operating as a world-scale merchant refiner, the megastructure is designed to systematically dismantle Nigeria’s decades-long reliance on imported refined petroleum products. Beyond macroeconomic stabilization, company executives emphasized that opening equity ownership to the public creates a direct mechanism for wealth generation, distributing long-term economic gains among everyday citizens.

Financial terms released during the presentation detail an expansive capital raise targeting approximately 2.15 trillion Naira. Under the approved offer framework, the company is bringing 4.1 billion ordinary shares to the market at a fixed price of 525 Naira per share. To maximize broad-based public participation and eliminate traditional barriers to entry, the subscription infrastructure operates on an end-to-end digital model. Investors access the portal using their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) for seamless identity verification, while a dedicated retail incentive scheme rewards long-term share retention.

Market regulators and exchange leaders highlighted the structural scale of the floating. The Managing Director of the NGX Group confirmed that the transaction stands as the largest Initial Public Offering ever launched across the African continent. By expanding market capitalization and broadening the investor base, the offering establishes a benchmark for capital allocation, proving that complex infrastructure developments can be financed through domestic and regional capital participation.
